Running your own climate model

The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model is basically a powerful computer program that simulates the atmosphere. Scientists and forecasters use it to study weather and climate—from everyday storms to long-term climate patterns. It’s very flexible: you can plug in different physics options, adjust the resolution, or zoom into a specific region to get more detail.

I was invited to join the "Meet the Laureate" recognition of the 2025 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate Prof. Guenter Bloeschl. The event was held in Stockholm on August 27, in the presence of His Majesty Carl XIV Gustaf and Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria.

Attending the Stockholm Water Prize award ceremony was an interesting and delighting experience.

Scientific article "Combining uncertainty quantification and entropy-inspired concepts into a single objective function for rainfall-runoff model calibration"

The scientific paper "Combining uncertainty quantification and entropy-inspired concepts into a single objective function for rainfall-runoff model calibration" by Alonso Pizarro, Demetris Koutsoyiannis and me has been just published by Hydrology and Earth System Sciences. It is open access. It focuses on calibration of hydrological models by using an objective function that combines uncertainty minimisation and entropy concepts.

New editorial in AGU Advances: Commitment to advance excellence and inclusion in the Earth and space sciences scholarly publications

Scientific paper in Earth's Future: Leverage Points and Cascading Impacts Analysis in Nexus Systems Using System Dynamics Modeling

The scientific paper "Bridging Information From Paleo-Hydrological and Climate Model Ensembles to Assess Long Term Hydrological Drought Hazard" has been just published in AGU Advances. It focuses on the evolution of drought frequency and severity under anthropogenic global warming, through analysis of paleo river flows for the Po River.
